What Should We Order To Eat Tonight? The Most Asked Question of Lockdown Answered

Since lockdown, I’ve been way more obsessed than ever before with getting food deliveries. They can be small items like doughnuts to a whole three-course meal for a romantic date night at home. We all know I love a good easy recipe, so a lot of our favourites around London have been delivering theirs to us, to keep us fed and happy all through this lockdown period. I’ve added little insights, recommendations and tips alongside each of the images to tell you about each place and why I’d choose to order from them.

I teamed up (on an exciting whim) with the lovely Lucy from Illustrated by Lucy Co to add illustrations to all of my favourite spots. You can find her on Etsy, selling the most gorgeous cards and doing bespoke illustrations upon request.

Juliet’s

Topping my list is one of my favourite South London spots for Brunch. Previously sister cafe to Milk in Balham, Juliet’s have gone out on their own, but kept all of their classics, adding more than just brunch during the lockdown. They offer grocery items, but my favourite is their dinner deals which are an appetiser, main and wine for two delivered fresh to your door. The kits are easy to make and come paired with a delicious, unique wine that you wouldn’t find in the supermarket.

Favourite delivery item: Sweet Maria with Bacon

Nonna Tonda

The ultimate date night treasure, Nonna Tonda’s pasta is here to impress (and fill) you. The pouch of pasta of your choice and sauce are delivered straight to your door and take pretty much under 10 minutes to put together — the beauty of a make at home pasta kit. It’s perfect for date night because there is no more rushing around the kitchen. Pre-prep your appetiser, like this burrata salad, crack open some wine (or shake up some cocktails) and pop your pasta on the hob just as you’re ready to eat. Plus the prices are unbeatable for the quality.

Favourite delivery item: Beef Shin Ragu with Pappardelle

Wright Brother’s

Seafood lover’s dream, dropped straight onto your doorstep — yes, please!  Choose from oysters, crab, lobster, and more, fresh caught and just direct from their providers. Wright Brother’s seafood is brought in from the best in the country, and the world and all that they offer is of the highest standard. Treat yourself to some oysters and champagne, shipped same day from Ireland, perfect for all the at home romancing.

Favourite delivery item: Carlingford Oysters

Creme

Some of the most expensive cookies in London, but also the most lush — Creme cookies are thick, packaged perfectly and the ultimate surprise for anyone needing a pick-me up. I’d say order 12 but the price tag is pretty steep, stick to 6 and trust me when I say you won’t need anymore than that because they are so big.

Favourite delivery item: Chocolate Chip Cookie

Monty’s Deli

This used to be my favourite spot for some good old fashioned deli food, pastrami, pickles, bagels and more, now that they’ve closed during Covid, they are offering door to door service of their classic items. They’ve also launched sandwich kits on top of their staples so you can make enough sandwiches for every day of the week (or feed 6 people…) and I am so here for it.

Favourite delivery item: Sandwich Pack - The Mensch

Naughty Piglets

My go-to SE London spot for date nights, catch-ups and pretty much everything in between, Naughty Piglets is everything you’d want in a cozy wine bar. The interior takes you to a hidden bar where the wine flows freely and the plates are small, delectable and ideal for ordering everything you want to try. I used to love sitting on their bar, overlooking all the plating, wine pouring and conversations, but now I have to try and bring the vibe home, and they’ve made it so much more fun. You have to live nearby, but their pick-up menu is dreamy and has a French twist on everything.

Favourite delivery item: BBQ Pork Belly

La Ferme

While on the French train… this is one of the most beautiful, cozy and homely restaurants, and where I had my favourite asparagus soup. La Ferme is based in Primrose Hill but delivering all across London for £5 delivery on meal boxes either with a 3-course set menu or a la carte. They have been focusing on different cuisines through lockdown, taking us on a journey around the world through food, so be sure to check their Instagram and website to see what cuisine you could be getting each week. 3-course set menu box starts at £28 and I’m pretty sure a 3-course meal for two at a restaurant will almost never be that price.

Favourite delivery item: 3-course set menu for £28

Crosstown Doughnuts

Do I need to say anymore? These doughnuts are delicious, have creative flavours, and offer vegan and nut-free options. Their boxes are a bit more of a spend than getting a supermarket box, but these doughnuts are so many levels ahead. Crosstown come up with unique flavours based on seasons, for example their current peach doughnut is perfect for summer! Kick this rain in the butt and sweeten up your weekend.

Favourite delivery item: Working From Home Box (Classic Selection) + Coffee

Some newer favourites include Polu Poke and their incredible poke and ramen £20 boxes that are packaged beautifully and delivered so quickly and, of course, Jefferson’s Ice Cream who deliver ice cream and sweet treats to satisfy all your cravings.

Thanks again to the wonderful Lucy for her gorgeous illustrations for each restaurant. Do check out her Etsy and her Instagram to see more of her beautiful artwork and cards you can purchase.

If you have any places you’d like to recommend, please pop them in the comments, I’m loving all the options and even as everything opens up this weekend, will continue to support these businesses through their delivery services.
